In the event of any attachments, this paragraph may linger on... | Code: | | This is an example post in your phpBB 2 installation. You may delete this post, this topic and even this forum if you like since everything seems to be working! |
Those who haven't used a ubiquitous phpBB forum before, this forum thread could be used as a sandbox for experimenting with the BBCode formatting syntax. Or for anything else._________________ Gary Schnabl

Just registered.
Gary, I am still not sure how this forum will develop, but I was thinking about creating one sticky thread for each chapter of the published books where people can drop a quick note if they spot mistakes or areas to be improved. I for one have often noted something wrong, but did not follow up with a correction because either it was a minor issue or because of the time it takes to retract -> edit -> upload -> submit -> ping the list...
We could also use it to record the functionalities that need to be documented just like Jean did last week.
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Michele

The forum would be suitable for collaborative projects whereby the principals and others (lurkers) might chime in and participate, assuming if they bother to read the board in the first place... And then there's the threading feature for pigeon-holing forum categories and topics.
And it could serve as a place to prod writers and such for anticipated projects without having to continually poll the membership for seeking volunteers. In addition, it's another means to list who's doing what (or not doing). Also, for very minor items, the entire membership need not have to receive the emails.
But with private, off-board posts, anybody mildly interested (e.g., merely lurking, etc.) would be left out of the loop. So, it's just an alternative mode instead of emailing the entire membership.
